Prayer | A Necessity

Prayer | A Necessity

Over the past couple of weeks, God has been directing us toward and encouraging us to pray.  This is not surprising if you consider our time in Mark--week after week we sense Jesus calling us to deeper waters of faith.  Even more specifically, calling us towards...

The Membership Process

The Membership Process

We are excited about what God is doing and celebrate his grace in our lives at Light in the Desert. Lately, I’ve had many, deeply encouraging conversations with individuals pursuing membership.  Many have asked what the membership process is and why it is a process?...

Membership

Our first every Prospective Members Class was a huge success.  We had an incredible time discussing our beliefs about God and the Church and then looking at a biblical perspective of membership.  The conversation was fruitful and deeply encouraging.  I trust that all...

Dat Dough Tho!

Pastor Bryan had the privilege to share from God’s Word at Union University last week. What a unique opportunity to preach at the place he attended college many years ago.

Let us not be church attendees who are basically secular because we’ve otherwise immersed ourselves in a culture filled with lies that are telling us how to live. Television, movies, advertisements, politics, social media, etc. should not be what drives what we feel, think, and do. We can’t bombard our minds and fill our time with these things and then give a glance at the bible a few times a week and expect to have a growing, fruitful relationship with God. The only way to maintain a vigorous mind set on the things of God is to let the Bible, God’s Word, dwell in us richly. (Thoughts adapted from John Piper’s article, He Will Send His Angel Before You).

Don Whitney defines meditation as “deep thinking on the truths and spiritual realities revealed in Scripture for the purposes of understanding, application, and prayer” (Spiritual Disciplines, 46). That can be a tough road to walk alone. Thankfully that is why we have other brothers and sisters in Christ who can walk alongside us. We need people in our lives who can ask us the tough questions to keep us accountable, who can pray for us, and that we can be honest within our struggles. We were not meant to walk our faith in Christ alone. Consider meeting up with a brother or sister in Christ this week for mutual encouragement, prayer, and bible reading. God’s people must get involved in each others lives and speak openly about how things are going with God.
